Last Friday night the girls basketball team from Thompson Falls claimed a big win over Plains, 74-36.

Despite the game taking place in Plains, Thompson Falls came out with a tight defense to set the tone quickly.

“We want to be the hardest working team in the gym. It doesn’t matter the scheme we run as long as we are doing it hard. We’re being responsible for what we are supposed to do and we’ll be in good shape,” said coach Chadd Laws. “The number one thing that contributes to it is the girls trusting each other. They bought into playing, not for themselves, but for each other and playing for our community. Also having fun and not worrying about a mistake or the next play.”

During the first quarter, the Lady Hawks bolted to a 27-12 lead.

Jody Detlaff scored a putback, lifting Thompson Falls to a 15-point lead and setting the pace for the rest of the game. Not long after that, Detlaff proceeded to score two free throws making it 29-14. After Detlaff, Ellie Baxter ended the first quarter with a layup.

By the end of the third quarter, Baxter scored another layup to make it a 24-point lead, 48-24.

“Our senior Belle did a jump stop and tried to do a pass out, which we’ve been working on and she just really wanted to get somebody open and I thought that was really cool,” said teammate Megan Baxter.

“I’ve never had like 70 points on our side, so that feels really good,” Belle Cooper said. “As long as we keep fighting hard and not letting people bully us around, then it shows everything.”
