Thompson Falls boys crush Troy

The Thompson Falls boys basketball team continued its winning ways last weekend with a win against Troy, 69-17, Saturday.
The Bluehawks soared over their competition, riding the energy from the win against Plains the night before.
“That feels good to get a win like that. I mean every win feels good, but I think after last night, which was pretty emotional with last night being the first one and against a rival. I was a little worried about a let down from the boys being too tired,” head coach Jake Mickelson said. “We were able to cycle through our entire bench and everybody got playing time. It was a feel-good win and back to work on Monday.”
Thompson Falls opened up the game with a quick 11-point lead, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
The Trojans came back with their own short-lived 5-0 run, but Trey Fisher stopped it dead with a 3-pointer.
The Bluehawks owned a 20-8 lead after one quarter, but they exploded with a 21-0 run, to make it 41-8.
Jack Greene had two layups in a row and added a free throw.
“Right now we’re seeing some flashes of the potential we have. Jack had a great game, and you know I’ve seen it, I’ve known it. This is his first year playing with us. He’s just getting used to playing with a new team, it takes a little time to build some chemistry and get confidence. You know I’ve seen him play in open gym and I knew he was capable of that. I think he’s starting to come around,” Mickelson said.
In the fourth quarter Cody Burk scored a layup bringing Thompson Falls’ lead to 46 points, 62-16.
“I think the boys are coming around. I think we started out slow and the kids haven’t played a lot of varsity ball and they weren’t used to the speed of the game and I think it’s kinda coming around right now,” said Mickelson.
“We’ll enjoy this one until Sunday night. Both of those teams are legitimate teams (Mission and Eureka) and they’ll give us some problems, but hopefully we’ll give them some problems too,” Mickelson said.
