Guida G. Strand
Guida G. Strand, 82, passed away on Nov. 30, 2019 in Portland, Oregon.
She was born in Ontonagon, Michigan, Oct. 14, 1937 and soon moved to Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, where she was raised.
After making a trip out west to Montana as a teenager she fell in love with the area and vowed to come back some day. She did just that after graduating from high school. Her first stop was St. Regis, but soon settled in Superior where she resided until 2014.
She married Earl Strand in 1961 and they were married 51 years until his passing in 2012.
She began her career at the Mineral County Hospital in 1967 as a Nurse’s Aide and worked there for several years until deciding she needed a change. Her next job was a dispatcher at the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office but it didn’t take her long to realize her passion was always in healthcare. She finished her career out at the Superior Tamarack Medical Clinic working as both front desk receptionist and the doctor’s assistant when needed.
After retirement she enjoyed being with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, all her menagerie of animals through the years, walks to the river with her dogs, cooking, baking, planting flowers, and relaxing on her front deck with a cup of coffee.
Guida is survived by her three children, Cara Schmeling of Ponderay, Idaho, Len (Jackie) Smalling, of Nickerson, Kansas, and Earlene (Dan) Worle of Vancouver, Washington, six grandchildren, and a brother Gilbert (Irene) Gravelle of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Earl, and parents Myron and Lolita Gravelle.
A graveside service will be held later in the summer.
