Lady Hawks rout Mission, 67-44
The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks defeated the visiting Mission Lady Bulldogs, 67-44, last Thursday.
Early on in the game Thompson Falls took the lead, with Mission barely hanging on for the ride.
By the second quarter, thanks to a layup by Ellie Baxter, the Hawks pushed past the 10-point-lead threshold.
“We want to have toughness; we want to have a great attitude. Our girls have battled through some adversity. We want to have a motive, you know; what do we want to do? We want to have aggression,” said Coach Chadd Laws.
Thompson Falls kept this momentum throughout the rest of the game and by halftime, after Megan Baxter scored, Thompson Falls still held the lead, but Mission was coming back.
Belle Cooper brought Thompson Falls back into a 10-point-lead, scoring in the third quarter. From that point on the Hawks pounded the Bulldogs’ defense with Faith Frields scoring a 3-point shot and two free throws, near the end of the fourth, by Jody Detlaff.
“We’re just going to keep doing what were doing; getting better every week. Better at rebounding, better at talking on defense and better at handling the basketball and attacking the rim,” said Laws.
They went to play Eureka last Saturday and lost 51-47. However the team is still feeling comfortable about their progress in the season.
“I feel very good about what we are doing. We are getting into the meat of our schedule; playing our conference games,” said Laws. “We’re 25 practices into a new program.”
Thompson Falls will go on to play Bigfork this Thursday at home.
