Hot Springs hosted Plains Friday and the Lady Savage Heat routed the Trotters, 58-42.
“I keep telling the girls that if they keep playing their game, things are going to work out,” said Hot Springs coach Richard Jackson.
Hot Springs started off strong with Lizzy Fisher sinking a layup and a free throw, followed immediately by a putback from McKennzie Cannon. Fisher scored again with a layup that gave the Lady Savage Heat a 7-0 lead.
The run was stopped by Plains’ Kylee Altmiller, allowing the Trotters to catch back up to the Heat.
By halftime, the game was close, aided by Plains’ freshman Kimmy Curry, who smoked 27 points during the game.
“This is only our second conference game, but that puts us at 2 and 0 in the conference and 8 and 0 overall. We’re right where we want to be. 14c is a good tough district to be a part of and that Trotter team is good. They’re young, but with that Curry girl coming off the bench and scoring as many as she did, that Plains team is going to get better down the road and be ones to reckon with toward the end of the season,” said Jackson. He also noted that his team shot 85% from the free throw line.
Hot Springs came back in the second half strong and started putting on the points until the end, meeting the fourth quarter with a 20-point- lead.
“This was a tough win, going in at half time as close as we were,” said Jackson.
Hot Springs will face St. Regis at home next Thursday and at Charlo, on Friday.
When asked his thoughts on the upcoming week, Jackson said, “They (St. Regis) have got some bumps and bruises; their point guard went down with a knee. They are a young team as well. They are a team that we beat twice in the season last year, and then (in that tournament) they went and beat us. You can’t ever put your guard down. The big game is going to be Charlo; they are undefeated as well.”
