Hot Springs girls romp over Troy, Two Eagle River

The Lady Savage Heat girls basketball team is on fire.

Hot Springs improved their season record to 10-1 with a pair of home wins this past week.

Using their trademark aggressive defense and solid scoring inside and out, the Lady Heat had little trouble scorching visiting teams from Troy and Two Eagle River.

Friday night against the Troy Lady Trojans, Hot Springs used its swarming defense to hold Troy to just two points in the opening quarter on their way to a 15-2 lead.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Lady Savage Heat used superior rebounding and another eight minutes of defensive pressure, once again limiting the visitors to two points while scoring 10 to take a commanding 25-4 lead at halftime.

The Lady Trojans were finally able to find the basket in the second half but it was too little, too late as Hot Springs continued to build on their early lead and went on to a record a 50-21 win.

The inside/outside tandem of 6-foot senior McKenzie Cannon, who scored 10 points, and sophomore floor leader Katelyn Christensen, who led the Lady Heat with 12 points was ultimately too much for Troy to handle.

A total of nine Lady Savage Heat players scored during the game.

Thursday night against Two Eagle River the results were even more lopsided.

Hot Springs overwhelmed the Lady Eagles on their way to a 28-2 advantage at the

end of the first eight minutes of play. By halftime the lead was 49-10. The home

team turned up the defensive heat the rest of the game, holding Two Eagle River

to five points total in the second half.

Cannon, who was a dominant rebounding force throughout the game, led the Lady Heat with 17 points, while senior guard Sydney Jackson threw in 16 points.

Christensen chipped in a dozen points and Brianna Gray added 10 for Hot Springs

as nine players scored for the Lady Savage Heat.

Hot Springs travels to play Valley Christian Friday night, before returning home for a game against Noxon on Feb. 6.
