Trotters hammer Troy; fall to Charlo
When two big, talented teams collide, something’s gotta give.
That was true Thursday night when the unbeaten Charlo Lady Vikings traveled to face the Trotters and came away with a hard-fought 39-30 win in Plains.
The first quarter was a frenetic scramble of two good defenses against each other throughout the opening eight minutes. Plains senior Kylee Altmiller hit a two-pointer at the buzzer to pull the Trotters ahead by a 9-7 score at the end of one.
Charlo’s D tightened in the second quarter where they held the Trotters to four points while hitting for 13 to take a 22-11 lead at the half.
Plains came out of the locker room and went on a 7-0 run to start the second half and erase most of the Lady Viking lead. They would tie the game at 22 and again at 24 in a quarter that featured multiple lead changes and a pair of ties during the third quarter.
Trotters freshman Kimmy Curry tallied seven points in the third, as Plains held a 26-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
However, the fourth quarter was controlled by Charlo as the Lady Vikings outscored the home team 14-4 on their way to the win.
The Trotters traveled to Troy Saturday night and claimed a 51-20 win. The weekend split left Plains with a 9-3 mark on the year.
This Saturday the Trotters travel to Arlee Saturday, then return home Thursday Feb. 6 to host Hot Springs. A day later, Feb. 7, they travel to St. Regis to take on the Lady Tigers.
