Public tour set for Lolo's Superior Ranger District
Mineral Independent
The U.S. Forest Service is in the process of developing the Superior North project on the Superior Ranger District, Lolo National Forest.
The 44,000-acre project area is located north of Superior in the Mill, Slowey, Keystone, Pardee Creek drainages and on the slope facing into the “Cutoff” section of the Clark Fork River northeast of St. Regis.
The primary purposes of the project are to address forest health and fuels concerns. However, other resource (e.g. recreation, watershed, and wildlife) opportunities will be considered.
The public is invited to participate in the development of the Superior North project along with other interested parties. To initiate this collaborative effort, the Forest Service will host a public field tour Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to share information about the area and discuss various management options.
The tour will start from the Superior Ranger District office parking lot, located at 209 West Riverside Avenue in Superior.
You will need to provide your own transportation. The tour will be conducted on forest roads so moderate clearance vehicles, such as pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), are recommended.
You will also need to bring a lunch and dress appropriately for the outdoors.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing protocols will be followed. Masks will be available for those who wish to wear them.
