Plains Lions, 4-H team up for spring cleaning
The South Side Sparks 4-H Club in Plains is planning a service project in their community by offering assistance to area neighbors that may need help with spring yard cleaning.
Montana 4-H promotes the “True Leaders in Service” event throughout the state each April, and in response to that event the local club members chose a neighbors-helping-neighbors event that focuses on ways to beautify Plains.
The club had planned such an event in 2020, but had to cancel due to declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year is the first time the club is moving ahead with the service project.
The event is planned for Sunday, April 18, and community members can submit a request for yard clean-up assistance by completing the form shared on the South Side Sparks 4-H Club’s Facebook page, or by contacting Kim Bergstrom, the club’s organization leader, at 406-546-2447.
In 2019, there was discussion of doing such a project in conjunction with a local beautification effort coordinated by Mayor Dan Rowan. When the club contacted the mayor this year, word got out about the planned event and the Plains Lions Club reached out and offered to provide their assistance to the 4-H members.
Having both clubs – 4-H and the Lions - actively participating will present a unique opportunity for young 4Hers to work alongside Lions Club members (who have far more life experience to share) toward the same goal.
We don’t quite know what to expect in terms of community participation, but will take all the requests that are submitted and do our best to divide and conquer in order to help as many community members as possible.
The club currently has 46 registered members.
