Blue Hawks crown two champs; Superior places four at Owen Invite

Wrestlers from Sanders and Mineral counties had good showings last weekend at the Owen Invitational in Polson.

Thompson Falls had two champions and a total of three placewinners.

Two-time defending state champion Trae Thilmony opened strong with a dominating run through the 145-pound bracket.

He culminated his 5-0 record at the invite with a 14-9 win over Columbia Falls’ Justin Windauer.

Fellow Blue Hawk Elijah Ratliff turned in a second-place finish at 152 pounds. Ratliff was pinned by Park High’s Danyk Jacobsen in the second period, but he still enjoyed a good tourney.

Sophomore Max Hannum put the Blue Hawks back on top of the podium with a 4-0 performance at 170 pounds. Hannum rolled through the bracket and then pinned Mission-Charlo’s Canyon Sargent in 4:40.

The Superior Bobcats had a total of four placewinners.

Decker Milender was a runner-up at 126 pounds after a narrow, 10-8, loss to Lake City’s Blaine Leonard.

At 182 pounds, senior Silas Acker was second to Frenchtown’s Noah Rausch after a pin in 1:27.

At 205 pounds, senior Carter Woodson was third when he pinned Park High’s Lyom Bullard in 3:38.

The Bobcat’s final placewinner was junior Chandon Vulles, who took second at 285 pounds. Vulles was pinned by Libby’s Aydan Williamson in 34 seconds.

Columbia Falls won the team title with 222.5 points while Frenchtown was second with 171. Ronan was third with 129 points, Lake City placed fourth with 126 and Park High was fifth with 122.5.

Superior tied with Eureka for seventh with 105 points each. Thompson Falls was 12th with 88.5.
