The Paradise Players presented their rendition of a longtime favorite "A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The performance took place Dec. 19 at the Paradise Event Center in Paradise, and this year’s performance came with a new twist to the play.

“We’re going to step back in time, sort of," said the play's director, Kathleen Hubka. "Before television and even more current technology became the norm. This is a time when audiences let their imaginations take them to the world created by the voices on the radio. This is a radio play, much in the spirit of the glorious golden age of broadcasting when families gathered together to listen to the programs on their radios in parlors and living rooms."

Kubka put together a cast giving the audience the enjoyment of times long gone.

Cast members included Susannah Lindsay, Benjamin Winkler, Billy Largent, Hondo Ryan and Butch Murdock.

Butch Murdock, playing the always grumpy Scrooge, did his best to discourage all those around him, while the very animated Tiny Tim, played by Hondo Ryan, brought laughter to the audience with his performance.

The play was well attended with refreshments being served at the conclusion of the performance.

The play took place in the gymnasium of the old schoolhouse in Paradise which held regular classes until 2013 when it closed because of dwindling enrollment. The school is now being used as a community, visitor, and art center.

Kubka said that she was excited to be part of the Paradise Center and has plans to improve the facility to make it more play friendly. They are in need of donations to upgrade their lighting and sound booth systems.

She has several more plays in the works and If you would like to help out with future projects and improvements you can contact Kathleen at kathleenkubka@gmail.com
