Mineral County residents and first responders attended a vigil last week for the victims of a tragic shooting which left three people dead in St. Regis.

According to Mineral County Sheriff Mike Toth, the call came in Saturday, Feb. 6 to the Mineral County 911 Dispatch Center.

When Mineral County deputies responded to the scene they found one man and one child dead. Another family member was transported to the hospital. Officials say it appears to be a murder-suicide.

Toth said 37-year-old Anthony Dascher was the shooter and his 7-year-old son, Ayden, is dead. Four-year-old Brayden was taken to the hospital and died a few days later.

Tyler Cheesman, Toth, and Undersheriff Wayne Cashman attended a candlelight prayer vigil last Tuesday to honor the victims.

The following Tuesday evening a large crowd gathered in 18-degree weather to pay their respects and mourn the loss of three lives. Brayden, the youngest victim, passed away the morning of Feb. 9, the young boy would have turned five years old the next day.

'Amazing Grace' was sung and a time of prayer were led by Pastor Morris Hill, and church member Andy Cadman of New Day Fellowship in St. Regis.

Pastor Hill prayed for comfort and healing for the victims’ family as well as the community, and for the strength of friends and neighbors to reach out to one another in the future and hopefully avoid future tragedies such as this.
