Plains enters voluntary water restrictions
The town of Plains is asking its residents to restrict water use due to ongoing drought conditions.
According to Mayor Dan Rowan, the capacity drawdown of the water tank and the overtaxing of the pumps has reached a critical point in the provision of fire protection and supplying enough potable water for town residents.
The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates Plains is in a moderate drought.
According to the declaration for voluntary water use restrictions, the town’s Public Works staff and its engineer have recommended water use restrictions to prevent a public emergency or disaster.
Rowan said in the declaration if voluntary restrictions are not enough to reduce water use so enough remains for emergencies, he will ask the town council to begin mandatory restrictions through an emergency ordinance.
Citizens and rate payers of the town’s water system are asked to follow these voluntary guidelines:
Odd number addresses shall water on odd days of the calendar. For example, July 1, 3 and 5, etc.
Even number addresses shall water on even days of the calendar. For example, July 2, 4 and 6, etc.
Watering shall be done between the hours of 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Watering should only be done once a day.
