St. Regis July 4 parade route altered

The St. Regis Fourth of July festivities are shaping are up to be back to normal this year and a day filled with family fun activities.

One alteration is the annual parade that usually marches down Mullan Gulch Road. For this year only it will have a different route through town due to the construction occurring on Interstate 90.

This arrangement is necessary to keep the four-way traffic flowing and not back up onto the off ramps.

The St. Regis Community Council helps to put on the annual Independence Day parade, and they are trying to prepare visitors for this change.

Council member Christine Johansen said, “Lots of folks come from throughout the county for the parade so we are hoping to get the word out to them.”

The temporary parade route for this year will travel north on Main Street, wrap around the entire school property, and return to Tiger Street. Viewers will need to park in other locations and walk within viewing distance.

Registration will be in front of the main entrance to the school on Tiger Street. Entries will be staged from Regent Realty back down Tiger Street by category. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the parade will begin at 11. Cash prizes are awarded for best entries.

To make a day of it, come to St. Regis early for the traditional free pancake breakfast held at the St. Regis School cafeteria from 8-10 a.m. After gorging on hotcakes, it makes it easy to return to your vehicle and sit on your tailgate near the school grounds to watch the parade pass by.

Following the parade from 12:30-3 p.m. there will be free kid’s games, food, and prizes at the park. Come grab a hot dog, and a snow cone, and watch the kiddos play some old-fashioned carnival games.

Then at dusk find a spot in the St. Regis Park and settle in for an exciting evening of fireworks put on by the St. Regis Volunteer Fire Department.
