Inmate dies in Mineral County Jail

A male inmate who was being housed at the Mineral County Detention Center died Sunday evening, March 7, 2021, in the county facility.

Notification to next of kin is pending.

According to Mineral County Sheriff Michael Toth, an investigation has begun to determine the cause and manner of death; at this time, the death is believed to be an isolated incident with no additional safety concerns to other inmates.

Pursuant to standard procedures regarding an in-custody death, a request was made to the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, who will assume responsibility to conduct the investigation and perform coroner duties.
