Dry conditions persist in Clark Fork region

April was a bit warmer than average in the Clark Fork region.

As it was last month, moisture and snow totals were well below normal (1.68 inches of moisture compared to 2.39 typical).

The snow total of 0.4 inches was nothing compared to last year's record-setting 11.6 inches of April snow. Total moisture for this water-year (since October 1, 2020) is 22.88 inches compared to 27.39-inch average (16% below average).

For snowfall, there is 85.6 inches compared to the average 114.9 inches (26% below average).

The Poorman Creek SNOTEL station at 5,100 feet reads 62 inches of snow on the ground (27.3 inches water-equivalent), 4% below median.

The Lower Clark Fork region snowpack (from Clark Fork, Idaho, to Missoula) is reported as 16% below median.

According to current and historical measured figures since 1965, the average daytime high in the region in April was 59.6 degrees. The historical average is 57.9 degrees.

The average night time temperature for April was 46.8 degrees while the historical average is 45.5 degrees.

The warmest day in April was 75 degrees while the all-time high was 92 in 1977.

The lowest temperature in April was 25 on the 12th. The all-time recorded low was 13 degrees in 1966.
