The year 2020 was one to forget for non-profits which had to forgo many fundraising events, but the Cancer Network of Sanders County is raring to go in 2021 with a special Mother’s Day event.

Music for Mom will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 7, at The Rex Theater in Thompson Falls.

The Cancer Network, which began in 2001, will put on a show including several local acts.

“2020 was tough on us, but we still had several people step up with donations so we could continue to help our Sanders County residents,” said treasurer Kathy Miller.

The Network will accept donations at the door and attendees will be treated to half a dozen musical performances.

The artists will include country singer Doug Grimm, fiddler Bob Sink, Keith Meyers and The Western Sky Band, the VonTraver Family Singers, vocalist Mary Crouse, and a duet by Tina and Theresa.

During the intermission, there will be games and entertainment.

The Cancer Network has worked hard for two decades to provide annual gifts to Sanders County residents undergoing cancer treatments.

In 2021, the Network has distributed 24 gifts for a total of $21,600. In 2020, it provided 71 gifts of $900 each. The Network has distributed nearly $800,000 since its formation.

The Cancer Network is planning several fundraisers this year. After Music for Mom, they are hosting the Skunk Alley Run/Walk at Homesteaders' Days in Hot Springs on June 15.

In the last full weekend in June, the Sanders County Yard Sale-ing event will be held across the county by organizations as well as individuals

The Cancer Network is also considering doing luminaries in Plains and Thompson Falls in early July.

The Network’s Fall Extravaganza will be in October 2021 at the fairgrounds pavilion in Plains.

CNSC's next-to-last fundraiser of the year is the annual Fall Extravaganza.

Their final event will be the annual lantern launch on Nov. 28.

Masks will be encouraged but not required at the Music for Moms event.
