Power-Dutton-Brady rolls past Noxon, 56-22

For a while in the opening moments of the game it looked liked a back-and-forth scoring match would be the path this six-man football matchup would follow.

But then the Power-Dutton-Brady (PDB) Titans kicked it into another gear as they overwhelmed the visiting Noxon Red Devils 56-22 in the non-conference season opener for both teams Saturday on PDB turf.

The Titans opened the day’s scoring barrage with a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kellan Doheny to John Baringer. The point after kick was good, giving the host team an 8-0 lead in the early going.

The Red Devils answered that score when powerful running back Cade VanVleet broke free on a 25-yard scoring run. The subsequent PAT kick was good, knotting the score at eight each.

Then the Titans took over.

PDB’s Spencer Lehnerz took the Noxon kickoff and raced 65 yards for a touchdown that, together with a successful PAT kick, boosted the Titans to a 16-8 lead with most of the first quarter left to play.

The Titans defense then forced a Noxon punt on their next series and Lehnerz was waiting for the ball to settle into his arms. From there he rambled 50 yards for another score and in the blink of an eye PDB was up 24-8.

Moments later, following another Titan defensive stand, Lehnerz hauled in a 25-yard pass from Doheny and took it the distance, putting the home team ahead 32-8.

Before the clock ticked to zero in the first quarter, Baringer snared another scoring strike from Doheny, this one good for 38 yards and a 40-8 lead heading into quarter number two.

The second quarter started out as a replay of the first, when once again the Doheny to Lehnerz pass combo hooked up for a touchdown, this one a whopping 70-yard strike against the bedazzled Red Devil defense.

That would be the only score of the second quarter as the Titans rolled to a 48-8 halftime advantage.

But Noxon showed no signs of quit.

The visitors scored the only points of the third quarter when senior Trevan Monegan grabbed a short, 7-yard scoring pass from quarterback Nathan Cano. The TD and ensuing PAT cut the lead to 48-16 heading into the final quarter of play.

However, PDB reined in whatever momentum Noxon may have had when Titan running back Garrett Willmarth plunged over the goal line from three yards out in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, bumping the Titan lead to 56-16.

Before the clock ticked off the finals minutes of the game, Cano scampered six yards for a Noxon touchdown, leaving the final score 56-22 in favor of the home team.

Noxon will regroup and attempt to get into the win column when they host “Tri-Cities” in their home opener this Friday at 7 p.m.
