Work continues at I-90 Quartz Flats rest areas
Construction continues as scheduled at the Quartz Flats rest areas on Interstate 90 between Superior and Alberton.
According to information from the Montana Department of Transportation, the contractor is currently building new restroom buildings, expanding the parking areas, and working on the wastewater system.
The rest area buildings and picnic shelters are taking shape as exterior framing and interior restroom masonry walls are nearly complete. The restroom roof tops and masonry on the exterior walls and columns are expected to be completed soon.
Officials expect work to take place in the coming months will include parking lot improvements and pouring concrete sidewalks.
There will be installation of metal roofing, outside lighting, interior plumbing, electrical systems as well as heating and cooling systems.
The Lolo National Forest Quartz Flats campground is closed for the season. Public access through the rest area has been closed.
Planned improvements include larger parking areas to accommodate increased truck traffic, new family-style or single-occupancy restrooms with anti-microbial surfaces to help maintain a safe and clean environment, improved water supply and wastewater systems to increase capacity and reduce waste, highly durable anti-vandalism materials to increase the lifespan of the new restrooms and reduce maintenance and improved lighting, safety features, and heading in common areas.
