Superior students check in from Europe

| April 6, 2022 12:00 AM

Superior High School students who have been touring Europe were expected to return Tuesday. The following trip report was submitted by teacher Jeff Schultz last week.

"The Quest so far has been amazing! Some of the students had never been on a plane and for a few the farthest east they had ever traveled was Billings. This was going to be quite the shock for them and it did not disappoint.

We traveled via bus from Superior to Spokane and from there we flew to Seattle. That’s where things got exciting. We left from Seattle and 10 hours later we were across the pond and in England.

The kids were absolutely spoiled because half the plane was empty and they were able to spread out and stretch out over an entire row per student on the plane.

We landed in England and hit the ground running. We visited the Imperial War museum and had some lovely meals as they would say. The next day after an English breakfast we headed to Buckingham palace and the changing of the guard. On our way there, Prince Charles drove by us.

We continued site seeing in London and ended our day with a terrifying private tour of Jack the Rippers murder sites.

The next day we travelled by double-decker red bus and by the tube throughout London. Sadly, the next day we departed from London via the EuroStar train that goes under the English Channel and connects London to Paris.

We got off early and headed to the beaches of Normandy. That night we had a few brave souls that jumped into the English Channel for a mid night swim. The next morning we went to see Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. It was truly moving to see what our brave soldiers faced and were able to overcome, but not without a very high price. The cost of freedom is steep and has been earned by our amazing veterans.

From there we headed to Paris and we are awaiting the morning eagerly to set out on another adventure.
