Lonepine woman, child killed in Sanders County crash

A woman and child were killed last week in Sanders County after their vehicle ran a stop sign and was hit by a semi-truck.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol report, the accident happened Monday, April 18 at about 9:20 a.m., near Hot Springs at mile marker 25 on Montana 28.

A 31-year-old female driver from Lonepine and an approximately 2-year-old girl were declared dead at the scene.

According to the report, the woman was driving a 2001 Nissan Xterra SUV eastbound on Lonepine Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Montana 28.

The SUV was T-boned by a 2017 Kenworth semi-truck from Washington heading northbound on Montana 28.

The SUV driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The child passenger was restrained.

The driver of the semi was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation.
