Plains rebounds with win over Troy

With a rematch against Sanders County rival Thompson Falls yesterday (Monday), the Plains High Trotters fast pitch softball team is hoping to find consistency put together some consecutive wins.
Things did not go as planned this past Thursday when the took on the Florence-Carlton Lady Falcons in Plains and were routed 18-0 in a game that also featured an attack from Mother Nature in the form of wind, rain and some snow flakes, along with near freezing temperatures.
Plains fell behind early against the Falcons, who rode the pitching of Kylie Kovatch as she shutout the Trotters and recorded her fifth pitching win of the season. Kovatch, who also went three-for-four at the plate during the weather plagued game, also kept Plains from collecting any hits through the four innings she pitched.
The game was called after four innings because of the 10-run Mercy rule, as Florence-Carlton amassed 16 hits for the shortened game and kept Plains off balance with aggressive base running.
The Lady Falcons scored five runs in the top of the first to take control early. They then added four more in the second and a pair of runs in the top of the third before erupting for seven runs in the top of the fourth to close out their scoring and the game.
With that shellacking behind them, Plains dusted off their bats and took on the Troy Lady Trojans in another home game for the Trotters.
This time Plains batters connected and the base runners scooted around the bases in a 12-4 Trotters win.
Plains scored first in the bottom of the opening inning, plating one run. Troy answered that run in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1. Plains then scored another run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead which they would never relinquish en route to a badly needed win.
The Trotters brought home four runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away on another cold evening at the ball park.
The win boosted Plains to 4-7 on the year.
After their game yesterday (Monday) with T Falls, the Trotters travel to St. Ignatius for a game against the Lady Bulldogs this Thursday afternoon.
