Cara Schmeling

Cara Schmeling passed away from a brain aneurysm on June 12, 2022. Cara was born on Sept. 16, 1956 to Fredrick Leonard Smalling Jr. and Guida Strand (Gravelle).

Cara had a lifelong love for animals, enjoyed gardening, baking and was happiest being outside in her garden or in the woods enjoying the wildlife.

She is survived by her son Jory Schmeling (Elena) of Athol, ID., brother Len Smalling III of Nickerson. Kansas, half sister Earlene Worle (Dan) of Vancouver, Wash., and half brothers Kevin and Patrick Smalling. Cara is proceeded in death by her father Leonard Smalling, mother Guida and stepfather Earl Strand.

Cara grew up in Superior then moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID, where she raised her family. She moved back to Mineral County for several years, then to Washington state, and eventually settling in Sagle, ID, before her death.
