Going into the final game of a season in which your team has yet to enter the win column, playing a traditional B/C powerhouse is perhaps a fitting way to wrap things up.

For the Plains boys and girls basketball teams, it was a season to forget, learn from and move on.

The girls lost 75-42 to the St. Ignatius Lady Bulldogs, while the boys team was shellacked by the boys Bulldogs, 80-28 in the Saturday night regular season finals for both Plains teams.

With just the District tournaments remaining to be played, Plains coaches will be working hard to develop promising young talent on both teams.

For now, the struggle goes on.

The Trotters dropped to 0-10 on the year with the loss to Mission, as the school in St. Ignatius is known. They fell behind 28-6 at the end of the first quarter and could not make a dent into the Lady Bulldogs’ lead the rest of the way.

At halftime the score stood at 45-22 and the outcome was pretty much a lock for Mission.

The Lady Bulldogs added another 10 points to their lead over the final two quarters of play to ease into victory lane with their 11th win on the year.

Plains will enter the Western 7B girls tournament this weekend in Pablo, as will St. Ignatius.

The boys game between these two teams was basically identical to the girls game. The Horsemen dropped behind 23-14 at the end of quarter number one, then withstood a Mission offensive push in the second quarter that left the Plains squad behind 46-19 at the halftime intermission.

The Bulldogs continued to pour it on the second half, outscoring Plains 16-6 in the third quarter and 18-3 over the final eight minutes of play.

Three players scored in double figures for St. Ignatius, paced by the 22 points from Ross McPherson.

As is the case with their girls’ team counterparts, both Plains and St. Ignatius will take part in the Western 7B tournaments which begin this Thursday in Pablo. Plains finished the regular season 0-13.
