St. Regis — The Montana Department of Transportation is taking public comment on a proposal to stabilize a rock cut slope about 400 feet long on Montana 135, 14 miles northeast of St. Regis.

The purpose of the project is to add stabilization to the rock face to decrease the likelihood of potential rockfall events. Proposed work includes rock scaling, rock bolting, and new concrete barrier rail along the base of the slope.

Construction is tentatively planned for the upcoming summer and fall seasons, depending on completion of design and availability of funds. An additional easement will be required in the Lolo National Forest to complete the work and for future monitoring and maintenance.
