A win over the Hot Springs girls basketball team was the bright spot in brutal week on the schedule for the St. Regis Lady Tigers this past week.

After pulling away from the Lady Savage Heat in the last portion of the game and coming away with a 60-49 win last Tuesday, Hot Springs was about to run headlong into a tough two-game stretch.

And tough is what they got when they journeyed to Charlo Friday night and were beaten by the 10-1, 14C conference leading Lady Vikings 51-32.

They came back to St. Regis for a Saturday night game 24 hours later but ran into an 8-2 Drummond team and fell to the Lady Trojans 59-46.

They started their week at home against the Lady Savage Heat and ran into another team looking for a win. Hot Springs actually led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to the seven points, including a long three-pointer, from Hot Springs senior Katelyn Christensen. Fortunately for the home-standing Lady Tigers, junior Macy Hill was also heating up on her way to a game high 25 point night. Hill scored seven points of her own during the second quarter to help cut the Hot Springs lead to 27-25 at the half.

Hill then scored 11 points in the third quarter to helped reverse the Savage Heat lead and give St. Regis a 44-42 lead with one quarter to go.

Christensen had scored nine points in the third quarter to keep Hot Springs in the game, setting up a potentially wild finish.

But St. Regis got six clutch points from freshman post Avery Burnham as they outscored Hot Springs 16-7 in the final eight minutes and pulled away to the win.

Christensen scored 22 points to nearly match the 25 scored by Hill.

Still riding high from the win over the Lady Heat, St. Regis took to the road to take on the once-beaten, conference leading Charlo Lady Vikings in a Friday night game.

Although it was close for most of the night, the game was pretty much all Charlo’s after they eked out a 12-9 first quarter lead, then added eight points to their advantage for a 26-15 halftime lead.

Charlo’s energetic guard Mila Hawk scored a game-high 22 points on the night as Charlo built a 42-25 lead with one quarter to go, then coasted to the victory.

The win gave Charlo a 5-0 conference record and a 10-1 mark on the year. St. Regis is now 5-4 in 14C play and 6-5 overall with the loss.

Senior Baylee Pruitt scored 14 points to lead St. Regis and got 10 points from Hill.

If the Lady Tigers were hoping for an easier time with their next opponent, they did not get it in their home court loss to Drummond.

The lady Trojans were in control from the beginning, jumping out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and a 27-19 lead at the intermission. With balanced scoring and stingy defense, Drummond added eight to their lead and were up 46-30 going into the final eight minutes of the game.

In winning their eighth game against two losses on the season, the Trojans were led by Baily Parke’s 12 points. Hill scored a game-high 16 to lead all scorers. Pruitt added 13.

St. Regis hosts Mineral County rival Superior Thursday night, then travels to Hot Springs for a return encounter with the Lady Savage Heat Saturday evening.
