Members of the Plains community came together in celebration of retiring Police Chief Shawn Emmett for 20 years of service to the citizens of Plains.

Emmett started his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer after repeated promptings from then Police Chief James Marble, for him to join the police department. Emmett received his Post certification from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in Helena and spent his entire career with the Plains Police Department. Emmett served 17 years as the Plains Police Chief.

It was an emotional time for retiring Emmett, as he spoke to the crowd and reminisced on several calls he was dispatched to over the years. He told about calls that he helped to save lives and those calls that he was unable to.

Chief Emmett is also an Army veteran of nine years and will continue to serve in the Plains community as a volunteer on the cemetery board of directors.

Starting July 1, the new incoming Police Chief Brian Josephson, a former detective of the Sheriff’s Department, will assume his new position.
