Stephen Elliott North

Stephen Elliott North, 81, died Jan. 26, 2022 at Arrowhead Hospital. He was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Missoula, the son of Ward T. and Olive C. North.

Steve graduated from Plains High School, class of 1958 where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. Following graduation, he worked for Diehl Lumber Co. Steve married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Kaye Mercier, and they settled in Plains.

In 1971, Steve was injured from an industrial logging accident, where the community of Plains rallied together and held a benefit for his family, which the family are to this day eternally grateful. Because of this community support Steve was able to relocate, rehabilitate and graduate from the University of Montana with a BA in education. It was in Missoula where Steve became a part-time teacher and an ADA Representative for the State of Montana.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister (at birth), Laura and a brother, Francis. Steve is survived by his daughter, Lisa R. Butt, her husband, Clarence residing in Tampa, Florida, his son, Jeffery L. North, his wife, Anna residing in Glendale, Arizona; five grandchildren, Kevin Rohrenbach, Ashlee Butt, Rachel Rohrenbach, Makayla North and Jake North.

A service remembrance/burial will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2022 at Plains Cemetery, 2 Upper Lynch Creek Rd.
