MISSOULA – The Montana Department of Transportation expects I-90 improvement work will resume the week of March 28 on the St. Regis West Project.

The project is rehabilitating the roadway to provide a smooth driving surface and extend the life of the pavement. A majority of the project was completed during the 2021 construction season.

“Work is going to kick off again soon on I-90 near St. Regis,” said MDT Missoula District Construction Engineer, John Schmidt. “Last year the contractor, Acme Construction, was able to complete the westbound side of the interstate and a good portion of the eastbound side. This year they will finish the remaining portion of the eastbound lanes.”

In 2022, the contractor will finish rejuvenating and strengthening the eastbound lanes located west of the St. Regis Interchange (Exit 33), and chip seal the St. Regis Interchange ramps (Exit 33) and the Two Mile Road Interchange ramps (Exit 30). Once this work is finished, the project will be complete.

“The contractors have done an excellent job on the project,” said Schmidt. “We appreciate their hard work, and ask for the public’s help in keeping workers safe this construction season by slowing down and using extra caution in the work zone.”

While construction is taking place, motorists should expect:

· Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

· Both east and westbound traffic will travel on the same side of I 90 between the St. Regis and Drexel interchanges.

· Speed limits will be reduced.

· Width restrictions will be in place (Visit www.511mt.net for the most up-to-date information).

Allow extra time if traveling through the area, and watch for workers throughout the construction zone.
