Host Beaverhead County piled up 101 points Saturday afternoon to win the girls team title at the Blue Devil Invitational track and field meet in Corvallis.

The only local team entered in the 16 team field, Superior placed 12th with 7 points.

On the boys side of the event, the Hamilton Broncs dominated the field as they scored 121.5 points to easily outdo second-place Frenchtown, which finished with 92 points.

Superior’s boys, as was the case with the Bobcats’ girls team, were hampered by a number of players not having the required 10 practices prior to the meet, and scored two points to finish 14th in the team race.

The Lady Bobcats got three solid finishes from Eddy Betts, who placed eighth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:19.43, just ahead of teammate Georgia Fredette’s time of 1:20.06.

Betts also placed 16th in the shot put with a throw of 23-6, and came in 19th in the discus.

Another bright spot for the Superior girls was Abby Wheeler, who took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles and came in 21st in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.32.

Lady Bobcat senior Sorren Reese made the trip Corvallis and competed in the high jump and javelin but did not place in either event. Reese won the state javelin competition two years ago and is headed to Carroll College on a track scholarship.

The Bobcats boys, meanwhile got a solid all-around effort from Silas Acker, who took sixth in the 400 meter run, ninth in the javelin event with a throw 123-04, and 34th in the shot put with a heave of 27 feet, one-half inch.

Bobcat weightman Charlie Anderson placed 15th in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet one inch and 20th in the discus on the basis of his 100-6 effort.

Triple jumper Jonah Renaud took home 10th in the 300 meter hurdles and sixth place in the triple jump for the Bobcats.

Superior’s next competition is this coming Saturday at the Frenchtown Invitational.
