Lady Bobcats net win over Troy

After being jostled around by Mother Nature, it was no doubt good for the Superior High tennis team to be able to hit the outdoor courts without wearing Helly Hansens rain gear.

With “canceled”, “postponed” and “rescheduled” being key words in their sport’s vocabulary the past few weeks, the Bobcats took out their frustrations on the visiting Troy High Lady Trojans, winning five of six singles matches in a dominating performance Saturday afternoon in Superior.

Standout sophomore Lanie Crabb, who earned a trip to the state championships last year as a freshman, showed the delays and rescheduling had not dulled her skills as she dispatched her Troy opponent, Winter Sedler, 6-1 and 6-0.

And that was not the most dominating showing of the day for the young Lady Bobcats, who got identical 6-0, 6-0 wins from Trina Azuere (over Troy’s Sierra Gardner), and Brooke Bibler (over Alex Pattie) as they rolled to the win on their home courts.

The match this past Saturday was “due to a miscommunication” said Superior coach Angie Hopwood, who explained the match was originally scheduled to be played in Troy before the Lady Trojans “made a last-minute trip to Superior”.

Other winners for the Lady Bobcats were Sicilia Slattendale (6-4, 6-2) winner over Troy’s Abby Osborn, and Molia Dao, who recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Osborn later in the match.

Even the lone loss in the match was a close one, with Superior’s Oliva Greuter falling to Troy’s Dayton Johnson 6-2, 4-6 and 5-7, in the tightest and longest match of the day.

The Lady Bobcats return to their home courts tonight (Tuesday) when they host Mission at 4 p.m.
