It’s been two hunting seasons since the folks at the Old DeBorgia School invited everyone to their famous Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, also known as the Hunters Feed.

The night before the opening day of big game season, the volunteers who keep the school shiny and spruced up and making it available for the community to use, turn it into a chow hall that feeds the masses as new friends are made and camaraderie is enjoyed.

“This will be our 32nd year. Would've been our 34th but we missed 2020 and 2021 due to Covid concerns,” said Lynette Walters, president of the DeBorgia Historical Schoolhouse Foundation.

She said about 15 members were involved in resurrecting this year’s event that features spaghetti with garlic bread, salad, and homemade desserts. Dessert options, and seconds, take up more of the serving line than anything else.

Speaking of having a sweet tooth, they will have some of the 300 apple pies they made last month and have kept frozen.

“We saved some specifically to sell at the spaghetti dinner and our upcoming bake sale in November. We will also have some jars of our spaghetti sauce for sale. These sell fast!” Walters smiled.

Homemade apple pies and/or their popular pasta sauce that you’ll sample that evening are $12 each. They could have easily sold out of pies but they know that some people who missed the initial sale have traditionally purchased them at this spaghetti feed for the upcoming holidays.

And then there’s the raffle that she beamed about.

“We have a gorgeous quilt that Susan Charles made, a fall floral arrangement made by one of the members, gift certificates from The Montana Bar (Saltese), The Hideout (DeBorgia), Town Pump and Darlows in Superior. A gift basket from Jackie's Flowers in Superior, a BBQ sauce pack from Superior Meats, a beautiful large moose collage picture from the Lincolns $50,000 Silver Dollar Bar, and either a gift certificate or gift basket from the St. Regis Travel Center. And all of the proceeds benefit the upkeep and restoration of our beloved DeBorgia Schoolhouse.”

And confirmation of that restoration is the public is invited to tour the upstairs that evening to witness what the hard work and proceeds have been doing.

Reservations are not required. Dress is whatever keeps you warm, covered and comfortable, even though the room is well heated. There will be no valet parking and smokers are required to do so outside near the gazebo.

Take Exit 18 off I-90 onto the Thompson DeBorgia Road for less than a quarter mile on Friday, Oct. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults are fed for $12 and youngsters 10 and under will be $7.

“We are just so appreciative of our community that continues to support our fundraising activities! We know that many people really missed this dinner over the last few years. It's not so much about the spaghetti, it's the chance to reconnect with friends and neighbors and to support our local community center,” Walters said.
