For the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks volleyball players, it was a matter of being at both ends of the volleyball spectrum.

Tuesday T-Falls hosted Troy, a lower end of the spectrum team this year and swept the Lady Trojans 3-0.

Saturday the Hawks traveled to unbeaten, top-ranked Bigfork and were swept by the Valkyries 3-0.

As a result of the week’s split, Thompson Falls season record now stands at 12-4 and their Western 7B record is 8-2 with the District tournament set for this weekend in Thompson Falls.

T Falls ruled the courts in their sweep of Troy, jumping out to big leads early in all three sets against the Lady Trojans, winning 25-11, 25-13 and 25-6. Troy simply had no answer for the Lady Hawks strength at the net, and everywhere else for that matter.

The loss dropped Troy to 1-8 in 7B play and 2-9 on the year.

Thompson Falls senior Ellie Baxter had a solid night for the Hawks, picking up seven service aces to go with her match high 17 assists. Fellow senior Avery Burgess had 12 kills and one block to support the T Falls cause.

Next up for the Lady Hawks was unbeaten nemesis Bigfork, which has had a strong conference run the past few years, including several key wins over Thompson Falls.

This time around Thompson Falls made a match of things, battling to successive 25-23 losses in the opening sets, before falling 25-9 in set number three to complete the Bigfork sweep.

Three Thompson Falls players had double figure statistics for the match, with Burgess recording 10 kills and a service ace, Baxter adding 10 assists and Cheyla Irvine chipping in 10 digs.

Thompson Falls now awaits the District playoff pairings, which open this Friday on the Lady Hawks home court.
