Superior brightens town with new streetlight banners

Streetlight banners welcome tourists and inform them of what community activities are available, and provide a flavor of the character of the residents.

St. Regis has been doing this for years, and actually, Superior has as well.

“This started in 2017 when the council decided to put the flag banners up. We have continued since then,” recapped Superior Mayor Roni Phillips. “We have had great feedback on having them up. We have also put up the banners for the high school seniors. This started when Covid-19 hit,” she said.

Seeing big pictures of graduating high school seniors in St. Regis and Superior has been a huge hit with locals and something each graduate can pin up in their dorm or apartment as a reminder of the community that is very proud of them.

The newest ones in Superior went up recently announcing another winter is behind us.

“We wanted banners for spring and summer season when the holiday banners were taken down,” shared Andy Cadman with Superior Public Works. “The town purchased the 18 banners and brackets online from a Street Décor Company out of Reno, Nevada. They are made of durable vinyl material and have a three-year warranty. They were approximately $98 each and there are six different designs,” he said.

Residents did take notice of the new Christmas decorations replacing the old worn-out ones this past holiday season, and this newness continued with the bright fresh banners.

“The city council asked me to choose the designs for the banners. Ruth Gordon (Deputy Clerk) and I chose the designs,” said Brenda Schneider, Superior Clerk/Treasurer.

She also reported that the town has purchased a man lift basket, and one of its uses is to safely hang and change the banners.
