Virginia Carol Hayen Brown, 89

Virginia Carol Hayen Brown was born July 9, 1934 to Laura Mitchell and George Hayen in Mayville, MI. At 9 years of age the family moved to Hogeland, Montana, home of her grandparent’s homestead.

She attended school in Mayville, Mich., Hogeland, Columbia Falls and Bigfork. She graduated from Flathead High School in 1952. 

Married Donald E. Brown on Aug. 18, 1956 in Great Falls. She worked as a nanny and a telephone operator in Sacramento and Great Falls. 

Living in Plains brought working opportunities as a nurse’s aide at Clark Fork Valley Hospital and a clerk at Plains Drug Store for many years. 

Her greatest fulfillment in life was being a loving wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. The family traveled to several Air Force bases following Don’s military service through the years. Virginia loved flowers, crocheting, and has made many quilts by hand. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary # 3596 in Plains. She also was a volunteer hairdresser in the nursing home at Clark Fork Valley Hospital and listened to the first and second grade students read for many years at the Plains Elementary School. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Brown, of 58 years; parents; sisters, Annabel Klein, Evalyn Marie and brother, Carl E. Hayen. Virginia is survived by her three children: son, Henry L. Brown of Plains, daughters, Norma (Wayne) Cole and Karen (Paul) Pickering; Grandchildren, Curtis and Scott Pickering, Nathan Cole and Falcon Albertson; great-grandchildren, Cole, Jordyn, Camden and Miles.
