It is an iconic symbol of days gone by. Caring people purchased her and re-purposed her.

And this past weekend, the classic Victorian style home, now known as J&J B&B (Jo and Joanne Bed and Breakfast) was host to a wide range of items looking for new homes during the Sanders County Yard Sale-ling event.

The county wide annual event is a re-purposers dream giving yard sale fans a plethora of choices at the dozens of yard sales throughout the area.

The bed and breakfast, a local business owned and operated by Joe and Joanne Mathers, was one of the many locations that attracted buyers looking for a bargain.

It is a classic "one man’s junk is another man’s treasure" situation.

The restored yellow mansion was a fitting host for turning something that had seemingly outlived its useful life and was given a new lease on life during the restoration process. The B&B featured a wide array of children’s clothing, including a large selection of baby clothing, along with many other assorted used items.

This year’s sale hosts weathered a fast moving downpour and gusty winds that in the end did not dampen the spirit of this popular event.

“We had a lot of people Friday,” said Joanne, sitting in front of the porch of the stately building she and her husband own. “Not as many early today (Saturday) but we still have the whole day.”

The Mathers’ sale was a multi-family event, with Joanne’s daughter Debbie Wartha and son-in-law Josh contributing to the items for sale.

Cindi Wheeler, who lives in the neighborhood, stopped by the J&J B&B Saturday morning after having their own sale Friday morning.

“This is our first stop of the day,” Wheeler said. “Looks like they’ve got some good things here.”

Mathers said a big part of the event is seeing neighbors and others come and check out what they have for sale.

“Its always a fun day,” she said.
