Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District and Montana Highway Patrol Officer Thomas Tafoya were dispatched Feb. 22 to a semi-truck non-injury accident on Montana 28, just north of Plains.

Upon arrival, first responders found power and phone lines down across the highway. Road conditions were icy and snow packed.

The truck driver based out of Chicago was driving southbound on Montana 28 when he lost control of the vehicle.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Tafoya, a two-year veteran of the Highway Patrol, cited the driver for careless driving.

After investigating the accident, Tafoya was quickly dispatched to two more accidents on Interstate 90.

David Goatley, owner of K&D Towing and Repair out of Thompson Falls, was on scene to get the semi back on the road. When asked how long it was going to take, Goatley said, “Hopefully if everything goes well, three hours.”

Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District stayed on scene directing traffic around the accident.
