Mineral County Fair Board adds 2 new members

The 4-H kids are raising their livestock. The Superior LIONS are working with the stock manager for the Go for the Gold Rodeo. Saturday night entertainment has been selected. The nonprofits who serve food are checking over their menus. Businesses are pondering what to enter in the parade.

Residents are thinking about what they might submit this year for judging from baked goods to paintings to fresh garden harvests or flowers, and the Mineral County Fair Board is going full steam ahead.

August 3-5, which are the first Thursday through Saturday in August, are on the calendar for the Mineral County Fair and there are a couple of new directors itching to help and get their feet wet. 

AnnaMarie White is the owner of White Horse Forestry in Alberton and has been a faithful helper and volunteer for the fair. The White Family have lived near Alberton for six years and AnnaMarie has a history and passion for helping people.

She excels with grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, which are usually in depressing circumstances and this happens to be more common than many know. But her effervescence and enthusiasm are welcomed to assist in continuing to make the fair a wonderful family event.

“The big, big thing for me is that a fair, any fair anywhere, is an opportunity to showcase what the county has to offer the communities. And I see Mineral County as having a bounty of everything. We have so many opportunities to be outdoors with our beautiful mountains. We’ve got these alpine lakes. We’ve got fishing with guides. We’ve got kayaking and water rafting. Being able to go horseback riding in the mountains or mountain biking. There is an abundance of outdoor activity year round for anyone regardless of abilities to take advantage of and enjoy.”

White also made mention of the nonprofits in the county that can serve almost any aspect of any need that anyone could think of.

“I’m hopeful that I can help in bringing more of the wonderful things already in place to the fair and introducing more non-profits to people. Especially the new residents who have moved in the last few years. I’m not looking at myself in making any changes but just improve on what is already there,” she said.

Mary Jo Berry has been the secretary of the Mineral County Fair Board for two years and is excited with the new blood.

“AnnaMarie is involved in all types of groups in the county and Nikki has had previous exposure and experience with fairs. We’ve (the Fair Board) been meeting once a month but back to twice a month now. The entertainment is lined up and everything is looking very good,” she reported.

When Nikki Moyer’s elderly in-laws, who live in Superior, needed more care for themselves, she and her husband packed up everything in Utah and moved to 59872. However, as their living quarters were being remodeled before the move was made, they were in the area last summer and attended the Mineral County Fair.

“I grew up in a small town so this was very similar to what we had,” she said.

Moyer had helped at her hometown fair so when asked if she wanted to become involved in the community, she was delighted.

“I said that I’d love to get involved and get to know the little town and be helpful and I have the time. So when Mary Jo (Berry) said there was an opening on the fair board and asked if that might be something that would interest me, I said, ‘Absolutely!’”

AnnaMarie White and Nikki Moyer join Al Acheson, Brittany Kottre, Ken Quitt, Mary Jo Berry and Maura Johnson, who make up the Mineral County Fair Board. Johnson became a member late last year.
