St. Regis' Jack Connolly posts low score on home course

In sports, defending the “home” turf, court, field, etc., is often a rallying cry.
“Not in our house” has become a popular mantra on posters and in chants.
That is apparently true with golf also at this year’s St. Regis Invitational golf tournament at Trestle Creek Golf Club just east of St. Regis.
Hometown golfer Jack Connolly shot an 80 on the 18-hole course last week to win individual honors for the St. Regis Tigers. A total of 25 golfers were entered in the men’s competition.
Connolly, who has recorded several top-five finishes this year, shot a 41 on the “out” holes and followed that with a 39 coming back the other way in his round on a bright, sunny day at Trestle Creek.
His score was two strokes better than the 82 carded by Florence High’s Hunter Olson. Superior senior Carter McLees was third with an 86. Florence golfer Rollie Fisher came in fourth with an 87 as part of the foursome that finished below 90 on the day.
Connolly’s round included a pair of birdies and five scores of par. He birdied the par 4 12th hole and the par 3 16th.
No official team scores were listed in the final results among the six schools in the men’s or women’s competitions.
Thompson Falls senior Ellie Baxter was the individual winner of the girls competition, shooting an 18-hole total of 98. She was the lone women’s golfer to break the century barrier (100) among the eight lady golfers in the tournament.
Baxter’s sister, Aubrey Baxter, was second with a 105, while Superior’s Shayley Smalley came in third with a score of 114. St. Regis senior Macy Hill finished fourth with a score of 114.
Other area men’s golfers scoring under 100 included Plains’ Kort Craft (98); St. Regis juniors John Pruitt (97) and James Roe (99); and, Superior’s Owen Doyle (93) and Phin Cataldo (95).
Colton Wormwood was the low scorer for Thompson Falls with a 101, while teammate Jacob Molina shot a 107.
Other Sanders and Mineral County golfers and their scores included: from Plains, Drew Carey (122) and Isaiah Paserman (125); St. Regis golfers Dillon Thomas (110) and Kaleb Park (102); and from Superior Brydon Drey (110) and Treveor Wolff (127).
Thompson Falls competitors Mason Park (134) and Alex Sweeden (107) also participated.
Area girls who took part in the tournament included Plains’ Hallie Corbin (148); Superior’s Maggie Haworth (144); and T Falls golfers Addi Pardee (120) and Emma Claridge (129).
The area’s two Class B schools, Thompson Falls and Plains head to Eureka May 8-9 for the District 7B tournament, while all other schools traveled to Bozeman this past Monday for the Class C Divisional tournament.
