New York City-based Piatigorsky Foundation performs May 12

Covid catch-up continues as the Mineral County Performing Arts Council is hosting another evening of entertainment this Friday.

“We are pleased that the New York City-based Piatigorsky Foundation is able to return for a performance on May 12, after a three-year Covid related hiatus,” said Treasurer, Jim Goss. “The one challenge we faced was how little time we had to publicize this event, but the Spring Gala afforded us the opportunity to get the word out,” he said referring the packed house (Superior High School Multipurpose Room) on April 28 when the Good Co from Seattle entertained over 100 people.

This next presentation returns to the LDS Church in Superior with a free performance starting at 7 p.m. The Piatigorsky Foundation has presented more than 3,775 performances, introducing the joy of live classical music in communities throughout the country. Since 1990, their artists have played for audiences including seniors, schoolchildren, the economically disadvantaged and those living in geographically remote areas.

In their hour-long performances that are both entertaining and informative, the artists share anecdotes and insights into the works they will perform. On Friday, cellist Evan Drachman, founder and artistic director of The Piatigorsky Foundation, shares his musical talent creating a rich sound that he is known for around the globe. He has become one of this country’s most respected authorities on the presentation of live classical music to diverse audiences.

Mary Au is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Southern California who will share the stage playing the piano. She has presented master classes in music festivals, universities and music conservatories and taught privately in the United States and China. Her dedication to guiding and nurturing developing musicians has earned her the “Remarkable Women Award” and the "Mellon Excellence in Mentoring Award."

MCPAC has noticed an uptick in attendance at this year's concerts, and Goss attributes this partly to growth in Mineral County, but also word of mouth of the high level of artistry and impactful performances that have come this direction. Refreshments will be served at the end of the evening.
