Final preparations taking place for Plains Day
Hours of volunteer work by Plains Councilor Connie Foust and the members of The Free Americans organization will result in a full day of exciting events in Plains on June 3.
The agenda for Plains Day will begin at 7 a.m. with the Mason’s Pancake Breakfast at the VFW building and ending at 1 p.m. Between 9 and 11 a.m., the parade sign-up/registration will take place at the Plains School. The parade will take place between 11 a.m. and noon, with County Commissioner Dan Rowan accepting the position of grand marshal.
At noon, an ice cream social will be taking place at the Rocky Mountain Bank. Also during the noon hour, pony rides will be offered at Fred Young Park. Rocky Mountain Bank will also be having turtle races at 1 p.m. Loggers and woodsmen will be showing off their skills with the crosscut and wet saw competition at the VFW building, at 2 p.m.
Children willing to get down and dirty can attend the watermelon eating contest at 3 p.m. on the Fred Young Park grounds. This event is for ages 5 through 8, and 9 through 12.
At 5 p.m. the Ryan family potluck will be taking place at the pool park. Dancing and limbo contests will also be held there.
There will be many other activities taking place throughout the day, including events on the green, a car show at Rehbein Ford, a rural fire truck display and a pickleball demonstration by the Plains Pickleball Association.
Various vendors will have items for sale throughout the day.
