Forest seeks to bury power lines at Quartz Campground
The Superior Ranger District is asking for public feedback on the proposed Missoula Electric Cooperative Quartz Campground Project located along Interstate 90 on Forest Service lands in Mineral County.
The project proposes to remove the current above ground transmission line that passes through the campground and replace them with a buried line.
Above ground transmission lines are susceptible to damage by wind and falling limbs which can cause risk of wildfire or loss of power to rural communities. Overhead power lines also detract from the natural aesthetic values emphasized in the Lolo Forest Plan.
Public comments will be accepted during a 10-day comment period starting May 24 and going through June 2. Comments may be submitted electronically on the project webpage or mailed to Bruce Paulsen, Realty Specialist, Plains/Thompson Fall Ranger District, P.O. Box 429, Plains, Montana, 59859.
