Young students take part in flying field trip

| November 1, 2023 12:00 AM

The flying field trip took place on Saturday, Oct. 21 with four sixth-graders and eight seventh-graders from Superior participating. The students had a gorgeous day of flying with pilots Ray Aten, Ed Lovrien, Gary Matson and Bruce Doering.

For the ground crew, Ralph Johns was essential at setting up flights and making sure all the paperwork was correctly submitted.

There was also a special guest: a student pilot named Finley who is a high school student in Missoula. She spoke to the kids about the process of becoming a pilot. The other pilots spoke about the physics of flight. There were also many parents and grandparents there to watch their kiddos take flight.

Young Eagles' flights are free and provided by the generosity of the pilots and other volunteers through Experimental Aircraft Association.
