Susan Lee (Lammert) Flory, 82
Susan Lee (Lammert) Flory, 82, was born May 29, 1941 in St. Paul, Minn., and left for her forever fishing trip Nov. 15, 2023 surrounded by her children, Laura, Cindy and Gary.
She was adopted at age 3 1/2 by Eugene and Irene Huelskamp. She was always very proud of her adoption and said she couldn’t have picked any better parents. Her parents helped find her biological mother, Gertrude Stewart.
Susan was raised in New Ulm, Minn., where she often visited uncle Jimmy’s farm. She really loved the country life.
The family later moved to Bismarck, N.D. It was in grade school there that she met her lifelong best friend Pat Nelson, whom mom called “sister.” Pat grew up on a farm that Sue visited on weekends and spent many summers there with Pat. Sue was very proud of this friendship of 73 years and the fact they never had a disagreement.
Sue chose to attend St. Mary’s Catholic High School where she learned to play trombone. She continued to play the trombone and played in the community band in Plains.
When Sue graduated high school in 1959, she went to work in Bismarck at the state capital driver’s license division until November 1960.
Sue married Don Lammert June 4, 1960 in Bismark and in this union had three children, Laura, Cindy and Gary. The family moved to Plains in 1965. In the time she lived in Plains, she worked hard. She helped grade Christmas trees for George andVerde McCallum. She worked for Champion picking pinecones with Verde. She worked on the family farm, was the fair board secretary, worked at Conoco and then worked at Clark Fork Valley Hospital where she retired after 19 years of service.
Sue married Jim Flory in March 1997. They spent most summers camping and fishing every chance they could and always had a good story to share when they came back home. They always caught more fish than they could eat so she always had fish to give away.
Sue is survived by her children, Laura (Ron) Renz, Moffit, N.D.; Cindy (Randy) Arnold, Paradise; Gary Lammert, Plains; and stepson Tim (Julie) Flory, Idaho; her grandchildren, Ryan Beller, Justin Mielke, Lyla Lammert, Kasey (Joe) Schoop and Amanda Lammert; and nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard (Denise) Klein.
Sue was proceeded in death by her husband, Jim Flory; parents Eugene and Irene Huelskamp and Gertrude Stewart; sisters, Rhoda Munsch and Kathleen Meier.
Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Plains. Sue will be laid to rest in New Ulm, Minn., as that was Sue’s last wish, to be buried with her parents, Eugene and Irene Huelskamp in New Ulm, Minn.
