Lanterns sent skyward to benefit cancer network
Rising toward the heavens in the dark skies of Plains, lanterns were dedicated and launched last week in memory of loved ones lost and affected by cancer.
The solemn event is sponsored by the Cancer Network of Sanders County each year to celebrate the lives of those affected by cancer.
Each of the 45 lanterns launched this year included a personal, handwritten message. Each lantern sent skyward during the evening also represented a $10 donation from the person launching the lantern, raising $450.
Some of the messages included, “Joseph, we love you! Family,” written by Adriene Galinat, and “Dad, I miss you every day,” written by Sandi Torres.
Cancer Network of Sanders County President Nick Ferrara was on hand to help launch each lantern.
The Cancer Network of Sanders County was established in 2001 and started providing cancer patients who live in Sanders County undergoing cancer treatment, $1,000 to help with expenses.
To date, Cancer Network of Sanders County has given 90 gifts to individuals. More than $100,000 was raised in 2024.
Donations may be mailed to Cancer Network of Sanders County, PO Box 1311 Plains, Mt. 50859. For more information about (CNSC) events and memorials contact them at 406-970-6242.
