Saturday evening in Charlo, the Superior Bobcats swamped the host Vikings 68-44 behind the scoring of their dynamic sophomore duo, Landon Richards and Gannon Quinlan.

But the Lady Bobcats came up just short in their effort to make it a sweep of Charlo teams when they fell to the Lady Vikings 50-46.

The Superior boys got 17 points from Richards, their 6-5 post player who dominated play in the paint Saturday, and 11 points, including a trio of timely three-pointers from point guard Quinlan in their win over Charlo.

Superior jumped out to a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the game.  Charlo cut two points off the Cats early lead in the second quarter, outscoring Superior 16-14 to make it 30-20 at the half, but that was as close as they would come.

The Bobcats padded their lead in the third, with Gannon drilling a long three at the buzzer to give the visitors a 47-33 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Charlo pulled to within 10 midway through the final quarter, but Gannon and senior Trizten Avila threw in long-range threes to quell the Viking uprising.

The win boosted the Bobcats record to 4-1 heading into the Christmas break.

The Lady Bobcats’ game against Charlo was a close game from start to finish, unlike the boys' game earlier in the evening.

Charlo emerged from a back-and-forth first quarter with a 12-11 lead in a hint at the balanced game that was unfolding.

Superior outscored the Lady Vikings 14-12 in the second quarter enroute to a narrow 25-24 halftime lead.

But Charlo regained the lead in the third quarter and took a 36-33 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.  After a seesaw battle throughout the fourth quarter, Charlo emerged with a four-point lead that upped their record to 1-1 on the year.

Superior got a team-high 17 points from senior Braelyn Mangold and 12 from Makenzie Reum.

Next on the schedule for the Superior teams following the Christmas break is a road game to Pablo to take on Two Eagle River on January 3.  They return home the following day when they host Drummond in Western 13C conference play.
