Kvelve's Comments: Christmas break

‘Twas the middle of Christmas break,

When out on the wood floors,

The grapplers and hoopsters were trying not to snore

Their sneakers and gym shorts were hung by their lockers with care,

In hopes trophies and medals would soon fill the air.

The players were resting their knees and their heads,

While the coaches and refs were mulling game plans with wonder and dread.

When out on the hardwoods and mats there arose such a roar,

They all sprang from their beds and ran onto the floor.

Away to the jump circle they ran in a flash,

Hoping the winter break was over at last.

The ref blew his whistle as loud as he could,

Then watched as the ball bounced on the wood.

The grapplers took hold of their opponent’s right leg,

Hoping for a pin without having to beg.

The lights on the gym ceiling flickered on and off,

While fans in the bleachers tried not to cough.

The smell of fresh popcorn hung in the air,

While some of the fans were yelling “he ref, no fair”.

Then some of the fans let out a big cheer,

That shook the gym walls from far to near.

On Tigers, on Trotters on Horsemen and Bobcats,

Put the ball in the basket and pin them to the mats.

Now Devils and Blue Hawks get into the chase,

Think of the trophy adorning your case.

Go Panthers, go Heat, win the game with your feet,

Think of a win, won’t that be neat?

When all of a sudden, the games came to an end,

It was all a big dream, but a good one my friend.

So, dream the big dream and get lots of rest,

After the first of the year, you’ll be put to the test.

There’s a lot of tense games about to be played,

Coaches and parents have nerves yet to be frayed.

Then one ref said as he ran out the gym door,

See you in a few when we’re back on the floor.
