Fifth-grader wins Superior bee with 'rancid'
Superior School District held its annual spelling bee last Wednesday, and fifth-grader Caleb Durovey took first place with the winning word "rancid."
Sixth-grader Penelope White took second after 19 rounds.
Students in grades 4-7 participated, and these students qualified for the Mineral County Spelling Bee to be held on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Superior High School Gym:
• 4th grade: Ruby Pittsley, Jo Kelly, Ellie Loraas, and Brynly Conrow
• 5th grade: Caleb Durovey, Ayla Henderson, Aaliyah Caswell, and T.J. Ostle
• 6th grade: Penelope White, Olivia White, Emma Erickson, and Lillie Raedel
• 7th grade: Draven Steel, and Zaimon Firestone
