Delbert "Bubba" Bennett, 70

| July 10, 2024 12:00 AM

70-year-old Delbert Lee "Bubba" Bennett went to meet his maker June 29 at high noon, as all cowboys do.
He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Udell; both sisters Synthia and Sharon; a son John and a daughter Amberlee.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie; a brother Keith; daughters Brandy and Sherri; a son Gilman; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Bubba was born at Fort Leonardwood Army hospital and was moved to Texas at 3 days old. He grew up in Fort Worth and Burleson/Alvarado. He graduated from Alvarado High where he played football and rode in rodeos: Bareback, Bronc's, Bulls, and clowned from mid 60's thru mid 70's.
He served 2 tours in Vietnam in the Air Force, explosives ordinance was his specialty.
After blowing stuff up Bubba just wanted to build stuff. Several of his uncles had taught him welding at a young age, so his first job was with a German blacksmith welding the supports under the DFW airport. If you look you will find his BB welds still. He welded from Florida to Alaska, retiring from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union out of Anchorage. He worked power plants, mills, pipelines, computer chip plants-if it had pipe he welded it. He also built trikes, knives, trailers, and repurposed many things into useful items.
Bubba had been married 4 times before meeting the Love of his life #5 (Bobbie Jo). This fact and the "Mail Order Bride" were running jokes between them. They were married in Sitka, Alaska for the last 35 years, celebrating their 35th anniversary at their home on Eddy Flat in Montana, where they have lived since 1999.
Bubba love music, riding horses and his mule, fishing, shooting guns, and his dogs and cats. He shared the things he loved with his grandkids. His greatest joy was his family. He was known for his vast inventory of hilarious jokes. Bubba had many adventures along life's trail, and met numerous people he considered friends. He will be missed. Truly a "Good Ride Cowboy".
There was no funeral per his request. His wake was Friday July 5th at his home in Montana.
