Cabin Fever Quilters Guild prepares for annual show
Mineral County’s Cabin Fever Quilters Guild is excited to present the 23rd annual quilt show entitled “Life’s Treasures” on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3.
This exhibition is held in conjunction with the Mineral County Fair in Superior, which is Aug. 1-3. While the fair and rodeo are held on the fairgrounds, the quilt show has grown so large that it has been held in Superior High School for the past several years. This show exhibits quilts made by local quilters employing a wide variety of techniques and styles.
The 2024 Scrappy Challenge quilts, along with numerous pieces of art, will be on display along with a presentation of service quilts made by the ladies of the guild to be given away to military veterans. The hours for the show are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day in the Superior High School via the main entrance.
This is an invitation for the Mineral and Sanders County residents to enter homemade quilts in the Cabin Fever Quilter’s Show. Quilters of all ages and abilities are strongly encouraged to enter the show. In fact, the guild created an entirely new category for rookies and youth this year. Quilted items can be any size and either hand or machine quilted.
The guild asks people to pre-register quilts postmarked no later than July 19, in order to enter and there is a limit of two quilts per non-member. The entry forms can be found at the MSU extension office in Superior or you can contact Quilt Show Chairman Naomi Mesenbrink at 406-591-5753.
Tasked with deciding upon the theme of this year’s show, Mesenbrink looked to the guild’s raffle quilt for inspiration.
“With charming ribbons of bright colors, it reminded me of circles of friends and the ladies that are all involved in the Cabin Fever Quilters Guild. Vincent van Gogh’s quote was the perfect link to encompass this special quilt show for 2024: ‘Close friends are truly life's treasures. Sometimes they know us better than we know ourselves. With gentle honesty, they are there to guide and support us, to share our laughter and our tears. Their presence reminds us that we are never really alone,’” she quoted.
Each year the Cabin Fever Quilters Guild raffles a quilt made and donated by a member or multiple members of the guild, which is a 501C(3). Tickets are available at Mineral County events and directly from guild members. The winner will be announced Saturday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. This raffle will support the art programs in the 3 Mineral County schools.
“This year’s raffle quilt, entitled ‘Rainbow Ribbon’ was made by guild members and is truly a sight to see in person,” Mesenbrink said.
The Featured Quilter from the guild this year will be St Regis resident, Gail Lewis. One of her life’s greatest treasures, her husband, will be there to join her each day as they are truly an extraordinary team in the quilting world. Together, they create marvelous quilts with animals (both applique and paper-piecing) and “brighter the better” colors. The guild is extremely pleased to highlight the talents of Lewis and knows that those who attend will be just as inspired as the membership is. Visitors to the quilt show will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite quilts, as well as shop at the guild’s “Country Store” of handmade quilted items and crafts.
